What are same-day dentures?

Same-day dentures are either full or partial dentures prepared prior to your extraction appointment and placed immediately after your teeth are removed, all in one visit. Dentists often refer to them as immediate dentures.

The dentures are created using impressions taken while your natural teeth are still intact. This is an important detail many people may not be aware of: preparation occurs before the day of extraction, which is why dentures can be provided on the same day as the extractions.

Can you really get dentures the same day your teeth are pulled?

Before the extraction day. Dr. Justin Zellmer examines your mouth, takes X-rays, and talks through your options — which teeth can be saved, which can’t, and whether an immediate denture is the right call for you. He takes impressions of your existing teeth and works with you on tooth shade and shape, so the denture matches your face rather than looking like a stock set. Those records go straight to Scott in the lab.

Extraction day. Morning appointment. Local anesthesia, then the extractions. Once your teeth are out, your denture is placed on the same visit, and Dr. Zellmer adjusts the bite and fit before you leave. Most patients are home by mid-afternoon.

The follow-ups. You’ll come back so we can adjust pressure spots and, a few months in, reline the denture to match your healed gums.

How long does the appointment take?

The extraction and first fitting usually run one to two hours, depending on how many teeth are coming out. Add the fit adjustments, and most patients are finished the same afternoon they arrive. We schedule same-day cases in the morning, Monday through Thursday.
