Get Your Smile Back with Dental Implants!

No one wants to lose their teeth. Unfortunately, though, it happens. In fact, more than 120 million Americans have lost at least one tooth, according to the American College of Prosthodontists.

Losing your teeth doesn’t mean you should lose your smile, too! Our team at Shelby Dental Center is here to help you regain your smile at affordable prices. One way our experienced and professional team puts smiles together is through dental implants.

Dental Implants Available at Shelby Dental Center

What are dental implants?

A dental implant is a screw that is placed into the bone. The screw integrates with the bone through a process called osseointegration. Once integration is established, a dental prosthesis such as a single crown, bridge, or denture can be attached. Utilizing a dental implant for a single tooth replacement is beneficial as opposed to having to compromise the two adjacent teeth with a bridge. Implants also prevent further bone loss in the area of the missing tooth, which preserves facial structure.

Dental Implants can be very helpful when used in conjunction with dentures. Two implants can be placed in the lower jawbone, for example, and the lower denture snaps onto them. This can be life-changing for the frustrated lower denture patient.

While our dental center used to only refer patients to a specialist for implant placement, Dr. Justin Zellmer, DMD, a dentist at Shelby Dental Center, is now able to place implants in-house, making the process convenient and more comfortable for patients.

There are a number of benefits that come with choosing dental implants, including but not limited to:

    • Easy to maintain a bright, beautiful smile
    • It fits into your natural teeth
    • Offers a permanent solution to tooth loss
    • Prevents bone loss and/or deterioration
    • Provides a firm attachment for patients who have dentures

Application of Implants and How They Are Used

“The process takes approximately four to six months,” explains Dr. Zellmer. “During that time, a healing cap is placed over the implant so that the tissue around the implant has time to heal. Then, an abutment is screwed into the implant to support the crown after the healing cap is removed.”
